Before dining here look carefully in the window and notice the “Grade Pending” sign, courtesy of the Board of Health, that’s been hanging in this restaurant’s window since early summer. That means they’ve failed repeated sanitary inspections and have still not corrected them. Some people prefer their food to be tasty, well served and will pass on food poisoning.
Went in to Elio’s on a cold Monday evening in the winter. It got good reviews and looked cozy.It had a good amount of people but was still only half full. When I got in, the manager suggested I eat at the bar since I was dining solo. Not cool to shame a diner for eating alone. The food may or may not be good, but the service is definitely not friendly.
I’ve gone to Elio’s many times. This Monday my husband and I had the misfortune of being early for a reservation and sat at the bar where the bartender named Brian completely ignored us for 15 minutes. I was sitting and my husband was standing behind me so I waved at the bartender to get his attention. He walk over to me and waved his hand mocking me and walked away! I finally spoke to the manager who apologized and got us a table. When leaving the manager pulled us aside to say “sorry “ and the bartender who was sitting at a side table taking a break, started yelling and waving his hand as he had done before. This caused concern with other customers who seems frightened. Never in my life have my husband and I experienced such a horrible experience as a paying customer any establishment. What upset us is that it seems Brian was not reprimanded for his behavior and therefore might still work there tomorrow. We will never return.
Excellent! This will definitely become my go-to place for Italian on the UES!
One of my favorite restaurants in nyc. Highly experienced staff and the food is amazing. 5/5 stars
Been coming here for 15 years.. always delicious, service is always great. Often a bit of a wait so I wouldn't go when you're already starving unless you have a reservation.
First time when I walked into Elio's back years ago and had my first dinner I absolutely loved it and always coming back! Old fashioned Italian food from salads pastas fish meets deserts amazing wine list and ambience feels like home beautifully put together tables with clean white tablecloths! Absolutely love the bar and spectacular service will recommend Elio's for wonderful dining experience anytime!
BEST Italian food in all of New York hands down. The pastas are amazing. The cream brûlée is amazing as well.
This is doubtless one of the best place to eat in the neighborhood. Anytime I come to this place I am highly happy. They always keep their very high standard service and the highest level of cooking they offer. You definitely will enjoy this this restaurant. Very recommended.
Very nice. Absolutely great food, no fuss. I will go back for sure
My husband and I traveled to NYC for the weekend and had such a fabulous dining experience Friday night at Elios, we made another res for Sunday. The homemade pasta and clams were delish. (tiramisu didn't require extra chocolate sauce.) Great service, energetic ambiance with irresistible breads and perfect Aperol Spritz! Grazie mille!
Excellent, authentic Italian food, super friendly staff, excellent service
I really don't understand the hype behind this place. Although we arrived early, my party wasn't seated until 30 minutes past our reservation time. It took another 30 minutes to get our menus and order drinks, and the food we got when it finally arrived was your run-of-the-mill New York Italian food. Throughout the meal, it was nearly impossible to have a conversation because of how loud it was in the restaurant. I'm in no rush to go back.
My husband and I delayed our visit here for so long after wanting to try it for a while. It is always pretty busy and the patio is very cute and romantic. However, food and service was just okay. Ordering wine by the glass is slightly questionable. They’re not on the menu and you might not get what you order and it might be $17.
It was good, and you certainly won't be disappointed, but the prices are very high and not worth what you get in return.
Big prices for ok food.
I was there tonight with my daughter. Fantastic meal and the service was excellent. I am looking forward to return very soon.
great good but it was SO packed! everyone was crowded around the bar making it a very uncomfortable and hot wait. The food and service was really good which is why i give it 4 stars but wish they had less tables, i felt like there was no room to walk or have a private conversation, everyone was yelling over each other.
We had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time (the only reason this isn't 5 stars), but the food and service were excellent. We were with a group of 5 for a friend's birthday and our server went above and beyond to make it special. Our friend couldn't decide what pasta dish she wanted, and the server actually suggested he would be happy to create a combination of the two pastas which our friend loved. The whole service team was very hospitable (far more warm and personable than most NYC servers). I had the veal scallopine which was delicious (with some capers added). I tried my wife's pasta which was also very tasty. Would go back soon.
Great place to have lunch and dinner, amazing pasta!
Perfect New York spot with fantastic food and first class service.
When I get the bill I find the bill to higher and I find them added extra two food to me ! I told him I was ordered 4 foods and why you charge me 6 foods ? The man want to deceive me! I wish manager would have to be thinking about this big problem with customer service! I'm very angered by this restaurant! The food is good, and price is higher, one wine of a cup is $16.
The food here is always great. The chicken parmesan is one of the best in New York. A bit tight when it is busy but embrace the coziness and the bustle and have a good time. The waiters can seem a bit gruff but are always super nice. Fun people watching too.
A classic red sauce restaurant - everything you'd expect at a UES location. We sat at the bar and had excellent/prompt service from the bartender. The drinks were stiff and the food prices were below than what I was expecting which did not translate into the taste/quality of the food. Definitely good "bang for the buck"
Great food and superb service.
The food is amazing! But the prices wow haha rediculous and never the same haha
Had a nice dinner here with my mom on Christmas Eve 2018. It was very busy when we came at 8:30 pm. We were seated next to bar by the podium for the waitstaff, which is not the best seat location. The waitstaff was pretty loud, but so was the restaurant in general. The waitstaff manager made a joke about women in fur coats "Do you know how many animals were killed to make that coat?" - "Do you know how many men I had to sleep with to get this coat?" - my mother did not like this joke as she was wearing a fur coat...
Delicious dinner at a great price point for how upscale the digs are. Personally wish they’d used a thicker noodle for my pasta dish, but it was still quite tasty.
Pros: The food was great and service was fast.Cons: The space was extremely cramped and loud, to the point where I could barely even hear the specials from the waiter.
best Italian in Manhattan, great bar !
A tasty Italian restaurant with great waiters!I
Red wine stain remover is a game changer
Consistent, excellent Italian basics, with some specials. Has been there for many years...for a good reason.
Food was good, not great. Service ok, but not anything to write home about. We felt like they were more interested in turning the table than making the night memorable.
The food was very good and the staff were friendly and efficient. It was also extremely crowded and very loud.
Awesome food.
Great food, lively buzz, fun service. Food was outstanding, waiter had great suggestion for wine pairing. He had a great sense of self-deprecating humor which made the meal even more enjoyable. Star came off because this place is LOUD when it gets hopping, which is every night, and maybe not surprisingly they begin to usher you out the door after about an hour and a half, ready or not, out you go. Hey, it's New York, who's not in a rush around here? Will be back for sure.
Authentic Italian experience with a very large menu (meatball Wednesday’s are a must try!) and extensive wine menu too! Celebrity sightings are often here but with no fuss. Highly recommend!
Great place, but it gets crowded.
Great food good service .
Always good. Always crowded
Great cusine, service,friendly accommodating staff,buzz atmosphere .
Best Italian food on the UES. The place to see and be seen!
Everything about this place is amazing! The food simply delicious. The service was impeccable.
We were in NYC and meeting our kids for dinner. They picked Elio's, an upper East side institution. It was a Sunday night and the place was packed with mainly regulars who obviously have been coming here for years. Put they squeeze people in, no room between the tables.I was disappointed in the food.Started with mussels in a white wine, just ok. Also fried calamari, also fair.My wife loves chicken parm. She thought it was nothing special. I ordered a nightly special, veal scaloppini with mushrooms. Just okEverything is a la carte. They are just lucky they have a loyal following.
The food, the service and low-key elegant atmosphere made this a regular family meal spot over years. A delicious feast at the window “late-day” Sunday ensured a united send-off to train, plane or ... back. would unite us. Ours family among others within the broader Ellio’s family . Our impressionable bellies satisfied and were sent academically on our way. House allies/spies sharing there was a coffee pour. The insanity starting before the click of any safety belt. Those devils (devils?). Foiled again. I’m certain (& cleared for a once) that apartment of cards shenanigans alongside oversized (wrong-sized?!) libations occurred above this “zoo of a city”. Always a rebel. At sone time point you let them fly. They soar. American tale of artistic tone. Done our way.
Please do not bring the check without first having asked for it. Disappointed, however, not embarrassed, as the couple next to us experienced the same horror.Would have been a lovely night otherwise.Update: 1hr after arriving home from restaurant ...coming out of both ends all night. Wow what a night. Thanks, Elios.
Delicious homemade Italian food
So very disappointing. Was looking forward to dinner with a friend who is a recent widow. She and her husband dined frequently here and her son-in-law either eats here or gets take out multiple times a week. The waiters were friendly and knew my friend by name. Service was rushed to put it mildly. They cleared table of our water glasses and drinks while I was still drinking my tea. Then they took away my teapot. My friend said something to the busboy and he pointed to the Maitre D who looked over at us with a scowl. Then they took the tea cup I was drinking away. We had been there less than an hour. Granted we are not young but we are women with multiple homes, enjoy the theatre, opera, dance and fine dining. We each have a wide circle of friends and I know I will not recommend dining here.
Just about the best Italian spot in Manhattan. Luca the main guy over there is highly attentive, helpful and genuinely concerned with your experience. Highly recommended.
